The Shiitake Mushroom Starter Kit is perfect for those backyard gardeners who have access to harvesting a small tree and would like to grow their own shiitake mushrooms. The kit allows the opportunity to experience the pleasure of mushroom cultivation.

Freshly cut logs or branches 3 - 5 inches in diameter from standing, live oak, alder, sugar maple or sweet gum trees can be innoculated with shiitake spawn plugs and allowed to incubate in a well-shaded outdoor wooded area. The following summer and over the next 3 to 5 summers, mushrooms will appear sporadically. The amount of mushrooms produced will depend on humidity, temperature and rainfall.

The starter kit includes 250 shiitake mushroom spawn plugs; a brad-point drill bit, wax, waxing brush, step-by-step how-to instructions and recipes.

The starter kit will "innoculate" five logs or large branches, 3 - 5 inches in diameter by 4 feet long. All you need is logs and a drill.
